Assessment in the Proficiency Oriented Classroom: An Introduction

Changes in instruction require changes in assessment. If we're teaching for communicative proficiency, we should also be assessing and grading with the same focus. This webinar will guide you on how to assess what students CAN DO in the target language, using a proficiency-oriented approach.

Elicia Cárdenas is a former middle school Spanish teacher with extensive experience across levels, ages, and subjects. She has also worked with preservice teachers at Westminster College and as a teaching assistant for MIT Teaching Systems Lab. Originally trained as an elementary teacher, she shifted her focus to second language acquisition and its application in world language classrooms. Elicia presents regularly at national, regional, and state conferences, as well as for schools and districts across the USA and abroad. Her expertise includes instruction and assessment through an equity lens and ensuring all students succeed in acquiring another language. She is the Director of Professional Learning for The Comprehensible Classroom and founder of the blog Deskless Classroom.

Active RIFLA members will gain 1 PLU for participating in this webinar.
